Your design gives me the fear
Hello my name is My Friend’s House and I’m a Cretaphobic. To save you Googling, that’s a fear of chalk. To be honest it’s chalk and the accompanying board. Brrrr. I got through school somehow, but then my chosen line of work – the interiors racket – turned out to be full of them too.
So it’s with a mix of revulsion and amusement that I bring you this new blog, focused entirely on stupid uses to which stylists – and presumably some homeowners too – put this dusty and dubious design feature.
What about you? Any interiors trends that collide with a phobia of your own…?
My interiors phobia is the fondness for lettering – large gilded letters propped on mantelpieces, on walls. Even worse if they spell LOVE.
…and mine is crockery with text on, e.g bowls that say PASTA, and mugs with COFFEE emblazoned on – hideous tableware tyranny!
Malika AND Emma – thank you. That’s three different kinds of writing-as-decor that we’ve given the thumbs down. I hate all of these things. Tableware tyranny indeed!
Oh yes. I do not like to see or touch parts of dead animals in interiors. So the cowhide and taxodermy trends have hit me hard.
Nora me too! I never want to walk on cowhide rugs – it seems disrespectful and slightly creepy.
I don’t like gallery walls. I may be in the minority here.
