Winter Olympics special: The Gayest Russian Interiors
So, we’re covering sport now. Sort of. The winter Olympics kicks off today in Sochi, Russia. As you probably know, Russia’s anti-gay laws motivated Stephen Fry, Peter Tatchell and many, many others to campaign against the Olypmics taking place there at all. I signed petitions, maybe you did too.
Today it felt important to show solidarity with the cause and for the LGBT community. How to do that on this blog? By shining a spotlight on Russia’s own underground gay decorating scene of course.
Never mind the bobsleigh, I present to you now our guide to The Gayest Russian Interiors.
Think about it. If Jonathan Adler and Simon Doonan were posing on the bed behind this pair of westies you wouldn’t bat an eyelid. Granted, those tasteful gents would never have a human/frog side table (and much of the rest of the decor), but you get the point. This interior is gay.
Something about that pink pillar and the woman at the bottom of the huge ornate staircase in her maid-like outfit makes me believe that this interior belongs to a Russian power-gay.
Is there anything gayer than Pink Whimsical Fairytale?
Yeh maybe. Can you imagine Liberace in this bath? Yes. Of course yes. This is gay.
So you see, there is a thriving gay decorating scene in Russia and we think that’s worth celebrating. Please share the news if you do too.
DISCLAIMER: To make this post possible, reliance upon ancient lazy stereotypes was necessary. We hope our LGBT friend’s and family forgive us for that.
Lovely! And just a glance at the old buildings of StPetersburg & Moscow is surely enough to convince anyone of the gayness of Russian architecture. All those fancy gilded onion domes and the pretty fairy cake pastels of all those sparkly palaces! So gay!
Indeed, another post perhaps. Thanks for commenting!
