Why don’t you: Put off the TV and listen to Alec Baldwin Here’s The Thing instead
Hey I know I was bigging up hobbies in the evening not two minutes ago. But, I’ve also discovered and become totally obsessed with Alec Baldwin’s radio show Here’s The Thing. You could say this is the logical conclusion of coming to the end of all seven 30 Rock series. Anyway, on it the actor interviews a real variety of glitzy guests – Julianne Moore, Thom York, Kristen Wiig, Jerry Sienfeld, too many to mention – and not all are just friends of his. Though of course you get the gist that many are.

He’s a delight, a good interviewer who makes the whole thing seem like huge amounts of fun even though he will delve into darker subjects, such as alcoholism with Edie Falco, which I hadn’t realised both have recovered from. And that voice, it’s perfect radio material.
Most of the guests open up quite a bit for he is a bit pushy – he has said his aim is to reveal what it’s like to walk around and be the person who he’s talking to. Thom Yorke was a real surprise and I really liked Sarah Jessica Parker (first one I listened to) and Kristin Wiig. I’ve only heard slightly awkward chemistry once so far and that was with Paul Simon who seems every bit as earnest and straight as he is in Annie Hall – maybe that wasn’t acting. I listened to the Billy Joel interview after that and it couldn’t have been more contrasting, all belly laughs, sing-alongs and harking back to growing up on Long Island. The Baldwin kept on imitating Joel’s broad accent, though he didn’t seem to mind a bit.
You can find all the episodes here – and warning, you might want to sit and listen to them in one go.
thanks for this heads up. definitely worth a listen to change my opinion as he sounds quite cool and complete contrast to the guy I had imagined
