Why…?
I’ve just lost (a happy) five hours of my life to this, and even if you’re not as obsessed with hand-written signs as me, I think you’ll find it has the same addictive effect. And if you’ve ever shared a flat – or a fridge – you’ll certainly find something you recognise.
Here’s a taster, one which especially caught my eye. A sad, poetic sign, found in sheltered accommodation.

Oh now you’ve made me sad! I so want to see that humming bird, to iron that crumpled map of mother earth.

I love this graffiti note “kiss her it may be your last chance” I believe Rockett St George now sells this framed.
Also you’ve probably seen it but if not I love this fab site http://thxthxthx.com. It features thank you notes from Leah Dieterich whose mother always told her to write thank you notes. They are very amusing.
I’m going to get lost in this, I can tell. I found a published book of notes between flatmates that really got me hooked.
Thxthxthx for the comments. Helene, it is sad isn’t it? Debra I love Thxthxthx – I was going to do a post on it. It seems simple but she does it so well. And any book on notes or signs is for me! The Guardian did a thing on an artist years ago who had photographed the kitchen notes his wife left for him, including the classic “DON’T FORGET MEATLOAF”. I never have…
I have a post it note from my father, from YEARS ago when I lived at home, and it says
‘Beans in fridge, delicious with haggis and packet of crisps’
I think I will frame it now and pop it on the wall, much to the delight of my other half.
Thank you MyFriend!
