Van + French city = brocante fever

I’m away this weekend doing a favour for my brother. He’s living in Tokyo, the poor lamb, but has a storage unit full of stuff that needs clearing out in Rouen, France. In a moment of Christmas bonhomie I offered to hire a van and go get the stuff, secretly thinking it could be a good excuse to play Salvage Hunters. Now the event is looming of course it’s all looking more like a hard day for The Chuckle Brothers than a leisurely waft around an antiques market, but I’m still hopeful there’ll be a bit of time left and a bit of space in the van for some hot brocante action.

The city of Rouen sits on the Seine, but it couldn’t look less like Paris. It is famous for its cathedral and also as the place where Joan of Arc’s hearing-aid melted.* It also has a massive 3 day flea-fest every September, Rouen ‘Puces’, when dealers from across France gather to sell their best stuff. Obviously we won’t be there for that, but I’m still hoping to find something in the town’s winding streets and alleyways that I just can’t leave behind. Back next week with a full report. In the meantime wish me bon chance, strong arms and a van that’s up to the task.

*Not a Smiths fan? I’m referring to this.
