TV Tip: Salvage Hunters
There’s nothing on TV right? Everyone says it, and everyone else agrees. If you don’t like gruesome medical stuff and aren’t interested in Yeovil Police Force stopping drivers without insurance, there’s nothing. I’ve been ‘reduced’ to watching reruns of Tonight Matthew-era Stars In Their Eyes on Challenge.
Until, that is, I discovered a new genre of homes show. Where I was familiar with decorating shows, and property shows, I hadn’t really stumbled across salvage shows. But now I have. And now I’m hooked.
The best, and classiest, is Salvage Hunters, currently showing on Quest on Wednesdays. It follows decorative antiques dealer Drew Pritchard as he visits junk yards, schools, stately homes… anywhere that might have some hidden old toot that he can take off their hands. He also meets quite a few hoarders masquerading as ‘dealers’. But his own Welsh warehouse and showroom are lovely, and his knowledge and enthusiasm infectious.
At the end of each buying trip Drew returns home to his wife and business partner Rebecca, and proudly shows off what he has salvage-hunter-gathered, eager for her approval. I think this might be what makes the show. As any junk-shopper knows, your finds are nothing until you can get someone else to admire them.
What is that amazing multi drawer thingy??? I want it, badly. x
It’s an Italian apothacary chest from Drew Pritchard’s website. £7,500. Amazing isn’t it?
