Tunnel love

Not content that they are now officially on the tube map, the good people of Crystal Palace are currently campaigning to reopen this Victorian subway beneath Crystal Palace Park, which is part of the disused train station. The plan is to transform the tunnel into an arts venue like Shunt at London Bridge.

Designed by architect Edward Middleton Barry, the subway appears to be in good condition (in the pictures), but the entrance is apparently in need of reconstruction to make it stable. If you want to join the campaign to reopen the subway you can sign the petition here.

Great find My Friend. I hadn’t heard about this but it’s lovely isn’t it? Never been to Shunt but I’d haul myself up to CP to go there

This is amazing – much too beautiful to be hidden. I live right next to CP Park and never knew this was there! I’d love to see this opened and have signed the petition already.

This is an amazing space. I love the fact that such an enormous city has so many hidden gems. We should campaign for more of them to be reused. GG
