Trend or travesty: Pot Pourri?
Google ‘Abigail Ahern and pot pourri’. You’ll be amazed by how many entries come up. Our own interiors Mystic Meg already got everyone obsessed with dark walls and then made faux flowers acceptable – the above gaudy bunch in my local florist and M&S selling them means fake flowers are totally mainstream now. Still, nobody styles them up quite like La Ahern…
Pot pourri, though? I’ve not seen a single picture of it that doesn’t make me think TRAVESTY (hence none here). And yet, AA has been giving it the thumbs up for years and I’m obsessed with nice smelling houses.* Soooo…
She recommends Santa Maria Novella (a tip from Rita Konig) and displaying it in tea light holders. Could do with some visual evidence? For your’s and Santa Maria’s sake don’t bother looking for it on Pinterest or Google.
*Ever since my friend Fi ended up at one of Julian Macdonald’s parties and reported simply: ‘It was the best smelling house I’ve ever been in.’
We have been obsessed with the SMN pot pourri since first discovering their little shop in Walton Street. For years we have sniffed candles trying to find one that had the same layers of fragrance without any luck so with the help of a wonderful little company in Derbyshire we designed our own! We have called it Into the Woods (a love for Sondheim helped the name choice!) and we have just launched it on our website. Happy to send you a sample if you would like to try.
That’s very kind of you – I’d be delighted to send an address if you contact our email theantistylist@hotmail.com
Would also love your thoughts on the best way to display?
Love the tales from Julien’s house – the extra layer of senses makes it an even better story.
Pot pourri though…I’m thinking dusty, musty and what my mother in law would call a stour collector.
I say travesty.
I know, well glamorous. She had more stories that shouldn’t be shared here. x
