Top shop: Darkroom
I’ve often fantasized about exactly where I’d live in central London if I could and Lamb’s Conduit Street is definitely on the list. Last week I went there to (finally) check out Darkroom, a Really Cool Shop run by Rhonda Drakeford and Lulu Roper-Caldbeck who come from graphic design and fashion backgrounds respectively. Those ladies know how to work a black wall, showcase a chunky knit and ‘do’ geometrics…
Around 20% of the stock is designed by Darkroom itself and this is cleverly mixed in with Tamasyn Gambell jotters, Established & Sons containers, Christien Meindertsma poufs and tights by Patternity among other things. I loved just about everything there, which says a lot for the way it was presented, and although much of it was expensive there was enough to find attainable too (£9 jotters folks).
According to Rhonda, their landlord owns many of the shops on Lamb’s Conduit street and only lets out to independent businesses, which explains the friendly vibe of the area. She also demonstrated how to tie a pretty knot with the purposely-too-long belt I bought and they don’t do that in Zara.
fab shop, fab designs, fab street, well worth a visit.
What a great looking shop, wonderful ceramics. GG
