The Pound shop
That’s The Poundshop founders George Wu and Sara Melin, and you read right, I said The Poundshop. Together with another Sarah (Gottlieb) the duo set up their concept back in 2010, hoping to harness their love of shopping with a greater aim of making design accessible to the masses. They achieved the latter by selling things in only £1, £5 or £10 price bands, just like your local pound shop. But, rather than hocking tat, the organisation has worked with designers to create affordable-but-cool bits and bobs. Such as £1 clip boards, door stops, coasters, cards, notebooks and superior balloons (glitter innit).
I like that sleepy toast coaster and the £5 notebooks would make great Christmas presents. I just said Christmas, get over it.
Here’s what one of the pop ups (in Manchester) looked like.
Right now, The Poundshop is taking up residency in none other than Selfridges until 23 October. You can also buy online here.
