Strip it
In Scotland this week and a rifle through the local paper led me to artist / filmmaker Murray Grigor’s collection of prints, currently on show at the Aberfeldy Watermill. His series depicts famous Scottish landmarks or stories reworked with contemporary imagery, including this, his version of the Forth Bridge covered in a William Morris print.
It stirs the pattern-loving side of me, something I’ve been questioning of late when it comes to the wallpaper in my own house. In short, I think I’m sick of it. Maybe, living with the same decor for five years is – shockingly – too long. In this room especially, where I fancy plain walls through and through.
Or, maybe it’s the way all your favourite wallpapers end up on crap tv shows or in dodgy bars.
Or, maybe…whatever. If redecorating occurs any time soon, I reckon I’ve realised I’m a fan of wallpaper in other people’s homes rather than my own.
What interiors ideas do you prefer to admire from afar?
Wallpaper reminds me of work too much to use in my own home, and I couldn’t agree more on the raw anguish when you see a replica of your newly pasted wall on This Morning or ANYTHING by Colin and Justin. Now, ideas from afar…I have a shameful love of the ‘country kitchen’ style. I know. I apologise. Can’t help it. Will remove myself from this blog forthwith.
Nothing to be ashamed of, nothing at all. Also, how do you fancy projecting all your ideas for a life size country kitchen onto a miniature room that our daughter’s can push tiny dolls around in? You know you want to…
