Speed shopping in Scandinavia
Before I get into a shameless shopping-not-culture account of my short holiday in Scandinavia, check out the kind of view I had in Sweden. Vast snowy expanses, frozen lakes and cute, pitched-roof houses painted in Falu red, soft grey-blue or mustard yellow. I loved it.
The holiday started with a quick stopover in Copenhagen to see my friend Cathy. She whisked us around her hometown on Christiania bikes, giving us a snap shot of the local architecture and leading us to the best place for fish and chips.
We were then gifted two child-free hours to do a trolley dash round the shops. Here are my hurried buys, snapped back home in random places while I look for their permanent positions…
An Indian mask from Hay, which I reckon is going exactly where it’s shown, minus the gent’s arm. The shop itself was really beautiful, but time permitted no thoughtful photographing of displays.
Also from Hay, the below dish and papier mache face. The dish was made from recycled credit cards according to the well-dressed supermodel who was serving me. Seriously, could Danish women be more attractive?
Love the colours. They’ll be finding better homes soon.
A day later, I discovered that it’s amazing what you can find in Copenhagen airport if you feel you’ve been short changed for time in town. The handmade Finnsdottir ceramic (tall, front right) was bought while my family ate sandwhiches at the departure gate…
…these two cute egg cups (for my kids), grabbed at the till. They’re called Bordfolk and are classic products from the 60’s and 70’s, reissued by design company Lucie Kaas.
Beautiful. The next time I come and see you your house will be minus 2 egg cups, for I am going to steal them.
How rude, expect to lose some of your t shirt cushions. I will wear them home if I have to. x
Love the recycled credit card dish and all your white ceramic pieces.
Thanks Helene, the white ceramic pieces are constantly calling out for more friends, so it’s an ongoing shopping project.
Those egg cups are a win in my book! I also really like your window photography – really evocative of necessary retailers method of visual communication – minimalist advertisiing 🙂
Great Blog, I am loving reading it! Have you ever tried bespoke printed wallpaper in your home? would you? x
Love the lady egg cup in her scandi jumper! Nice to see the Dundee marmalade pot next to it!
