Shopper’s holiday
Vanessa Barlow and her husband spent last year revamping a 1960’s outbuilding in their garden in Lyme Regis, which they launched as a holiday-let this January, called The Garden House Studio. It’s neat, but isn’t it sweet? The beds fold up into the wall – and, shock, manage to look classy with it (those blankets don’t hurt) – and all the furniture and fittings have a mid-century bent.
That’s not all. You, potential guests, can buy any of the furniture and accessories in the building up to and including the vintage sofa – a 1960’s number that Vanessa had reupholstered. ‘It may be that we send larger pieces on at a later date, but you can walk away the smaller items for sale – the books, artwork and bowls,’ she says.
The website has an Items For Sale section if you want a peek at the stock – some lovely Pelican Original books included.
Who wouldn’t love this Wendy house. I still have the brother of the Welsh wool blanket that’s on the bed, only in a different colour and mine was bought and used in the mid sixties as a door curtain to keep out Welsh winter draughts. It’s waiting in the attic to be re-employed. They never wear out.
I know it well. Quick – get it out. They’re well fashionable again.
Even though I’m just preparing for a busy few weeks at work, mentally I am going on a weekend away to this little house for a few days of fish and chips and charity shopping. Lovely find!
I just heard the charity shopping down that way is great too.
