Shop news
Now that there is an office in our lives all that’s left to want is a shop. Full disclosure, I haven’t been to the one I’m about to recommend. But I can report that Lois is in everyone’s favourite new Dalston – Peckham – and that it sells a lot of handmade pieces by designers from the hood. The focus is on UK-based artists and makers, but the shop also runs events, such as a writers workshop – an ongoing one – and a letterpress Christmas card workshop – just missed. A peek at the wares.
The ‘L’ shaped ceramic bulb sign is by designer Elise Menghini, a recent graduate of Bath Spa University. She was, she says, ‘inspired by the remaining letter hanging on the derelict facade of the Tivoli arcade on Margate’s seafront.’ The necklace is by Garudio Studiage, whose fine work we’ve documented before and the patterned plate is by Pen & Gravy. The embroidered art work is by Reena Makwana who I’m pleased I looked up…Check her splendid stitched scenes of South London life, with names such as ‘Walworth Boots’.
Suggest you suss out the rest of her website if you’re interested in seeing Brixton’s Southwyk House in stitches.
My daughter has just emailed me details of your unique and wonderful art designs. Of course I may appear bias as I am Elise’s mum.and feel she is incredibly talented, I absolutely love her L shape with the bulbs. Really enjoyed the embroidered art work by Reena Makwana, what a refreshing idea. I do hope “My Friends House” is a huge success and grows and grows.
Thanks Rosemarie, how nice of you to comment – we love the L signs too so sure your daughter will keep going strong.
