Scary or cool?
Speaking of Facebook – Ros, I’ve totally logged out and am inches away from killing the page – Here is an image I had as my profile pic for a while, which let me tell you did divide opinion.
It’s Ghanian I think, snapped in New York’s MOMA because well, I was down with it. But to get to the point of today’s post, I’m having a bit of a fascination with masks. Which isn’t entirely new.
If you’ve been to the Eames exhibition at The Barbican you may have noticed they had a collection of them, picked up from all over the shot and looking splendid on some shelves.
And if you’re a familiar with Hay, then you maybe spotted these papier mache Indian Masks.
Obviously John Booth is all over it (above the door, good position).
But some further rummaging has made me realise that as much as I would love to assemble a wall of masks above the sofa, there is a fine line between that which is lovely and that which is terrifying. Thus today’s post is equal parts Trend or Travesty? (Trend) and a game of Scary or Cool? Let the game begin…
SCARY?
OR COOL?
I’m going with cool for that one.
SCARY?
OR COOL?
Cool, definitely cool.
SCARY?
OR COOL?
Or maybe a bit twee?
SCARY?
OR…
Come on, that’s freakin’ terrifying.
Here’s a happy nice photo of stylist Laura Fulmine’s living room to end on that we covered on The Chromologist.
Proof that maybe it’s best to slip a mask in discreetly among your other art so as not to freak anyone out.
Scary, cool, and totally hysterically funny. Is this some sort of psychological test? It should be made compulsory. Honestly, I nearly choked with laughter. I’ll never be able to look at a seriously displayed mask again without developing a grin.
Wow, some of these masks do creep me out, but most of them are really cool to display on the room.
