Reader’s makeover: an update
A couple of weeks back we featured a plea from Emma, a reader, for help making over her bedroom, and the wonderfully detailed and inspiring suggestions of interior stylist and blogger Joanna Thornhill. Obviously Emma has been on the coffee, because already she has come back with some work-in-progress picture updates. Behold:
“I thought Joanna would be pleased to hear I’d heeded her advice. So mirror is down (holes covered by mag cut out and photos with washi tape I already had),” says Emma. This is Decorating 101 folks – if you’ve got a hole in a wall, stick a picture over it. My own picture-hanging regime is almost totally dictated by blemishes I want to cover up.
“Headboard recovered in very cheap denim from local shop and cost £16,” adds Emma of the above shot. “I also padded it so it looks better and is comfy. Few new cushions from ebay and sale online.” I’ve not thought of denim as a headboard material before but it looks great – it adds texture and has a no-nonsense quality to it that’s pleasingly anti-boudoir. The mix of soft pink, mustard and grey, plus a little Liberty-esque print works well too.
Lastly a shot suggesting that the taped-up pictures are indeed only temporary. “The oil painting was a charity shop find. All the more time-consuming jobs are on the to do list. Thanks again.” Thanks again for keeping us updated Emma – and letting me get all Daniel Hopwood about your efforts – and thanks of course to Joanna Thornhill and her practical, achievable suggestions.
Looking good ! 🙂
fab, love the headboard : )
Wow, I’m amazed Emma’s got anything done yet at all in that short time – impressed! *glares at own bedroom which is only 38% finished after two years of procrastination* I really like denim as furnishing fabric and actually made a denim blind in one uni house – as hardwearing fabrics go, it’s great value. Padded headboard hack looks ace. My current picture curations are mainly sporadic displays dictated by existing hooks-in-walls just to get some of them off the floor, whilst awaiting ‘proper’ arrangement (yep, that’s two years and counting as well. Perhaps I need Emma to come and sort out MY gaff instead…)
Ha ha, I hear ya. I’m great at dishing out the advice and then leaving my own home to wilt under piles of to do lists. Great she got on with it!
