Paul Vanstone
Gosh I love Lambs Conduit street. I spent an enjoyable hour there with a hangover the other week, dotting between the Gents clothing shops, Darkroom and Folk. Folk is best known for its understated clothes – and in my opinion, is great for shoes – but have a nip around the shop if you’re looking for a bit of interiors inspiration too. There are always lovely ceramics and bits and bobs lying around on the old shop fit cabinets. The showstoppers when I was in, were these huge head sculptures.
After the nice girl in the shop wrote the name of the sculptor down for me, I discovered that Paul Vanstone is not some obscure artisan selling his work at rock bottom prices to gain recognition (shame). He used to assist Anish Kapoor and has exhibited his own work at the V&A, The British Museum and Cass Sculpture Foundation.
So I probably won’t be buying Carrara marble head for my hall at home, but aren’t they magic?
Have a look at more of his work here.
Agree. Lambs Conduit Street is fantastic.
I think his sculptures are beautiful and the range of colour and pattern in the marble is wonderful.
It is, his Cloth series is also pretty amazing with folds that are delicate despite being heavy stone.
