Cos magazine

My Mum has been sending newspaper clippings to me for years along with notes saying, ‘thought this might be interesting for the blog.’ Last night she arrived to stay with this new Cos magazine and I ‘thought this might be interesting for the blog,’ before she even said it.

Cos is a brand, like Toast, which attracts a totally fanatical follower because it gives more than its core product – the core product being good to start with, importantly. This mag is a fine example. A few pages in some things felt familiar though: The writing and shoot style, the single pages of short text about sub cultures, the interview subjects all a bit left of mainstream. And, come on, how often do you get Wolfgang Tillmans shooting a story on a digital printing trade fair for a shop’s magazine?

Why? Cos Magazine is edited by those gents who publish The Gentlewoman and Fantastic Man – Gert Jonkers and Jop van Bennekom, who surely have the best names in the biz.

In the time it took to type that sentence the sun just went in, but whatever, to gardens… I just discovered this super snazzy parasol company called Sunbeam Jackie, which is based in Penzance the birthplace of […]

Exhibition: Michael Verheyden

I thought I was going to post about an exhibition I like the look of, launching at Willer gallery on the 11 March. The subject is Belgian designer Michael Verheyen whose beautiful objects look sooooo tactile and simultaneously too expensive to touch if you’ve got the Macnair clumsy gene. I’m not just posting about that […]

Trend alert: Celestial

Did you hear that the Northern Lights have been visible over Essex? Reem, etc… These are not the Northern Lights, but two rugs by FRONT London. Aren’t they wonderful. Mind-boggling, inspiring and, unlike the rugs I’ve been buying lately, excellent for not showing up a spilled pot of Chinese plum sauce.
