Occasionally brilliant
In my eternal hunt for bedside tables for the bedrooms in this house, I have realised two things. 1. There are no nice bedside tables – by that I mean the variety with drawers and stuff. 2. I have a thing for occasional tables and stools (which make excellent bedside tables if you agree with point 1). I’m thinking outside the bedrooms now and plonking them wherever I can. This latest one is from the Habitat sale and it’s making a dead corner of the house – outside my bedroom, at the bottom of some stairs – become a little something.
Here are some other’s I’d definitely consider adopting.
Clockwise from top left…
- Autoban, who can do no wrong.
- I found out about this Ana Kras table over at Heart and Design. Love the colour, love the shape, love that it can become a bin if you turn it upside down, though I never would.
- ‘Happy’ stools in happy colours by A2.
- Pinch Design, again, can do no wrong.
- All three of these please.
- You look like a big chess piece? I’ll have you.
- A tiny bit like the Suzy Hoodless coral number I covet, but not so pricey.
Hey there
Can I just say I LOVE this side table! 🙂
Also, please can you tell me what stain you used on your floorboards as we have orange pine glossy varnished ones which are screaming to be sanded and stained dark like the ones on your landing.
Thanks
Ellie
PS – you are blog of the week at http://homeshoppingspy.wordpress.com which I write for Ideal Home – congratulations!
Dear Ellie
Thanks so much for making us your blog of the week – delighted to merit a mention over at Home Shopping Spy. The varnish – actually stain – was the darkest I could find in my local diy shop and I think it was called wenge (whichever is the darkest you can find in your shop should be fine). It needed around 4-5 coats to get this dark – think that’s the key and hope that news doesn’t sap your will to get sanding and staining. Basically we kept going until it reached the right point.
Thanks again for checking us out.
My Friend
Thanks!! Will get down to HSS and hire that sander then…am sure it will be worth it in the long run, but might need to do room by room!
Love your blog

I quite agree – I have spent over two years now looking for the perfect bedside table and it’s so frustrating. On another note, I’ve had the Habitat coffee table version of your red table on my wishlist for a while too, it’s got great curves.
I’ll let you know if I ever see a nice bedside table if you do the same?!
Deal!
