New wheels
Other than my garden, new kitchen doors, buying lampshades for all my bare bulbs, getting a rug for the landing and buying new cushions for the living room, the only consumer item really occupying my otherwise selfless mind is getting a new bike.
I’ve had my current model – the dead-weight- for 13 years. Of its 21 gears only three now work and while I like the idea that I am burning 80% more fat than the people overtaking me every journey I take, it can also feel a tiny bit demoralising. Here’s what I’ve worked out:
1. The Tokyo Bike (as seen at Clerkenwell Design Week last year) is my replacement bike of choice. Especially the Classic, which looks like the above, but with a brown Brooks-esq saddle and matching handlebars. A UK shop is launching next month.
2. People use their bikes to make their homes look cool…

My bike is ancient too – and wouldn’t make my home look good – I’d love a new one! Those Cyclocs are fab aren’t they?
The dead weight is also not up to the job of enhancing my house. Yes, the Cyclocs are very cool though. By the way, loved your high-line post from a while ago, I saw an exhib surrounding the plans before it was built and have longed to go back and see the real deal.
