My desk: Tamsin & Emma from Beldi Rugs
My son threw up on his rug the other night, enough to render it dead. So while I’ve been meaning to blog about this company for ages, turns out this week is timely.
Please allow us to introduce the wonderful company Beldi Rugs, run by Tamsin Flower, from her London home, and Emma Wilson, from her Morocco abode – how glam. They kindly showed us their respective desks in our first cross continent Designers’ Desks feature!
First up, Tasmin…
Where is your desk from?
It used to be my mother in laws, I’m not sure of what period it is, but I think it’s pretty old and has been in her family for a long time.
Where is it?
In my kitchen, which I love because it feels like it’s in the heart of the house. When I’m working I’m not stuck away from people. Obviously this can have its down falls too as its hard to concentrate when you have a four-year-old running around your desk.
What’s on your desk just now?
Pretty boring things, just my computer, camera, printer and some paperwork that needs filing away.
Do you have stuff around you for inspiration?
I have a couple of nice pictures on the wall and I try to have a rug from our company in every room because I love them and they remind me of happy times in Morocco. I also have a stack of interiors magazine in every room in the house. I seem to subscribe to so many I can’t keep up with reading them all. It drives my husband mad.
Do you have any specific stationery you like to keep handy?
I have a notebook that my husband had Beldi rugs monogrammed on to it when the company started.
A favourite mug?
I love my horsea vintage ones with the months of the year or a bone china one.
Do you keep your workspace tidy?
My house is quite cluttered so I like my desk to be quite tidy if possible, it makes me feel more organised.
Meanwhile, in North Africa…
Emma, who does the buying for the business, works from her home office in Sidi Kaouki. She also rents out several beautiful holiday homes, which you must see here.
Where is your desk from?
It’s an Arne Jacobson piece from the 50’s bought from Two Columbia Road.
What’s on it just now (in the pic you sent)?
Pantone note book, Red Moleskine Diary, Stone paperweight, Copper pot of pens, an Apple macbook air and a desk tidy. I can’t remember where I got that orange storage pot from.
Do you have things around you for inspiration?
No, I don’t have anything for refernce, I buy rugs only if I love them and trust my eye for what will sell.
Do you have any specific stationery you like to keep handy?
An Oggetti pencil case and a Pantone notebook.
Do you have a view from your desk?
Yes, of the hotel gardens opposite my house.
Thanks Tamsin and Emma. Beldi Rugs will be at Design Junction this September and you can buy their rugs here.
Sigh. House envy and life envy all in one…
Yup. A killer combo
Off to look at rugs….. Thanks for sharing. Love the houses, especially Tamsin’s! I will blame you if I spend money!!
