My desk: Kate and Eleanor – AKA EaK
Where are your desks from?
Good old Ikea! They’re practical with plenty of space for doing a whole manner of different things.
What do you have on and around your desks?
We’re both car boot sale and charity shop fiends, and collect vast quantities of junk! We have to keep it to a minimum in the studio as otherwise there wouldn’t be any room for us to sit, but we do have a pinboard of doodles and nice things that catch our eye. We also have tubs full of printed items that we pick up for inspiration, and we’re big fans of birds, dogs, chairs, vintage postcards, all things French and Lucienne Day prints.
Have you found a good chair?
We’ve just moved studios and haven’t moved our good chairs into the office yet, though we do have a comfy Eames chair that we found in a skip in Cardiff – why would anyone want to throw that out?!
Do you have a view from your desk?
Our studio is in an old warehouse in north London, and in our room we have two big lovely windows onto the street below. It’s tucked away behind Angel tube, next to lots of nice shops and markets. Next door is a courtyard with a little cafe and lots of pots of geraniums. On a sunny day you can imagine you’re in the Mediterranean.
A favourite mug?
Any mug will do as long as it’s filled with tea! A biscuit is a bonus…
Do you keep your workspace tidy?
We really try to, but in case of a busy, messy week, we always have a good clean up on a Friday and make it as lovely as possible to walk into on Monday morning.
What are you working on at the moment?
We’re working on a number of different projects at the moment, including re-branding Gorwydd Caerphilly, a Welsh artisan cheese company that sells in London’s Borough market, plus an exhibition design and brochure for Pili Pala, a childrenswear company that uses organic cotton and recycled material and makes everything in the UK.
We’re also working on a brand new range of EaK Products, which we’ll be selling at the latest Craftacular craft fair in Bethnal Green on July 10th. Come along, there are always so many lovely things there!
