More from the floor

Ok, yeah, so I went to Ikea to get a rug. No, no it was fine. Really. That thing in the warehouse bit where I got likened to Jesus dragging his cross? Quickly forgotten once the rug was in the car. It was all fine. My only question now is, have I bought something a bit… mental?

Ikea Rand rug

It was the best combination of hugeness (3.5 x 2.5m), cheapness (£275) and sort of being in the right area style wise. But once it was on the floor, with all the furniture out of the way, it made everyone’s eyes go a bit funny. Like a Bridget Riley you have to hoover.

It’s possibly best seen through a door, or reflected in a mirror, to lessen its potency. But it is warmer. That little fan heater you can see under the table is being retired.

Reminds me a bit of a rug we had in the sitting room when I was little. Only that was smaller and made from real zebra skin!!

You have to let me know how it is underfoot. I have been itching to buy that for ages but doesn’t feel very soft to walk on. Also if your eyes adjust x

Hmm – it does look a little strong on the floor. To balance it try adding some darker tones with other parts of your decor (if you dont fancy painting the wall try dark picture frames etc). I think thats why it looks so good in doorsixteen.com x

I am planning to get one for under my dining room table, so – unless too much drink is taken – I shouldn’t have to worry about the Bridget Riley effect. I think it looks great in your room. I have to ask though – what is going on with the fireplace? Are you solving a crime?
