Monday quiz – answered!
On Monday My Friend posted this picture of a mystery object she’d bought in Hanoi and had displayed at home, asking if anyone knew what it was for.
Well we had a number of suggestions, but no definitive answer until reader Alex Robinson got specific on our asses. The answer: “It is a mould for making mooncakes, which are eaten during the Chinese August moon festival. You see lots of these wood moulds in antique shops in China and SE Asia.” Thanks Alex. I did a Google search for it, as you suggested, and found this image, from a blog all about moulds!
And here is a very modern take on mooncakes, from baking site E’s Joie.
fantastic, thanks Alex and My Friend for doing the googling. Does this mean I have to make moon cakes now? Pleased it’s not for piles.
