Making art work documentary

I found this nice little documentary Making Art Work: First Idea to Final Piece on BBC iPlayer and it’s now only available for one more day, so be quick if it takes your fancy too. The film follows six artists – in individual segments – talking through their work and processes as they go about it. I only caught the first one, but happily I instantly loved her work.

Anna King is a painter from Shetland, who I think grew up mostly in the Scottish Borders and now lives near Kelso. She paints scenes of abandoned buildings and unpeopled landscapes in oil on paper, adding pencil while the paint is still wet (I was taking notes). The works are absolutely gorgeous, just the sort of thing I like to take snaps of when in rural places. For instance, one of her favourite subjects, some old corrugated joiner sheds, had beautiful interiors – all peeling painted walls, rough wood, and the feeling of dishevelment.

Anna is exhibiting at the Wall Projects gallery until saturday, so if you’re Borders-bound or live around that way then go along – the details are here.
