Last meals
Fresh from the pages of the Daily Mail – source of many an enjoyable homes story I have to admit – is a piece about artist Julie Green who for 13 years has been painting death row prisoner’s last meals onto plates.
The Mail didn’t pass any comment about what they thought of this, and were keen to emphasize how many of the meals involved junk food. But I like them. It seems a fitting thing to do, paint a plate. My friend has some plates painted by her grandfather, an artist, off which I’ve had loads of dinners.
The style of drawing reminds me a bit of Gillian Kyle’s drawings of iconic Scottish food brands. Realistic and domestic. Read a much more interesting article on Julie Green than the Mail’s (or this one), in which she talks in details about her project, here.
