Lady looks for hobby
I’m in the market for a hobby. I’ve worked out that my life lacks an absorbing activity that removes my mind from everything else by bamboozling it with things it doesn’t know how to do properly. So, I’m thinking about taking up painting. The last time I painted was probably at school and I could actually do it then. During my design degree, I somehow avoided it – I think we were all about the pen rendering. Anyway, I know I now can’t draw as I’m shocked by my creations for my kids. So I doubt I can paint either. Should that stop me?
I’ve taken the step of removing my old student tool box out of the loft to consider it as a thing to use again.
In amongst the gumph there are a few tubes of paint and some brushes so that just leaves finding paper and a positive attitude.
There are also some 8-week online courses at St Martins that might be worth investigating and if you have your own urge to create something (in London), you might find this article useful.
Probably for now this might be a thing that should happen inside my four walls where I can only be embarrassed in front of myself. But if you have any tips about how to embrace (amateur) artistic whims do shout.
I would start by sniffing the lighter fluid to open up the creative channels. Where would VG be without his daily toot of absinthe…
You know my first thought on opening that box was ‘what is that for?’ I can’t remember why I used it and yet I did definitely. Shed the light US if you know of a good reason why a trainee interior designer would have this. Other than recreationally.
