Jim Lambie and The Poetry Club
Sorry the blog is coming over a bit Reporting Scotland while Ros is in Greece, I’ve been up the road. In fact, I’m going to take this chance to exclusively reveal the result of my own Scottish Independence poll conducted while up there (I asked everyone I met what they were voting). Which is…pretty much 50/50. My friend Martin reckons it’ll be very close, but will end up a no. That wasn’t part of my poll, I just gave you that for free. I also didn’t ask strangers from diverse backgrounds, so I’m not saying the poll isn’t flawed.
Anyway, to the real subject of today’s post…
Did you know Jim Lambie is having a retrospective at the Edinburgh Fruitmarket Gallery this month – you may have seen images of his excellent vinyl tape floors, a sculpture piece called ZOBOP?
I started some distracting google searches on Lambie one lunchtime last week and discovered that he also runs a club in Glasgow (where he lives). It’s called The Poetry Club and is described as ‘an intimate bar and performance space’ and somewhere that’s perfect for the spoken word, small-scale theatre, cinema screenings, live music and performance art. Are you now imagining Glasgow to be a sort of Alan Ginsberg New Vison sort of a place? All I’ll say is it might be – The Poetry Club has had poetry readings from Saul Williams and Patti Smith.
Here’s Patti along with some other scenes – the clubs nights namely – that make me want to go there.
