Japanese street detail

Yes, it’s been a long time coming, but here is our first dispatch, snatched from the hands of our Japanese correspondent. A single picture of a manhole cover in our roving reporter’s Tokyo ‘hood of Asakusa offers an incomplete but telling suggestion of civic differences between here and there.

While we’re on a loosely Japanese theme, I’ve been meaning to post about this for ages. It’s a piece of work by my friend Lenka Clayton, an artist who often works with found objects. She found this 1975 diary while in America, and flagged every entry which accidentally adhered to the formula of the Haiku. See more of her work here.
