January reading list
So far we’ve been a Christmas-free zone on MFH, but I can’t resist posting about one of my lovely Christmas presents. Here are some of the nice things I got, in a pile on the side.
Specifically though it’s this, the gorgeous hardback book from the HG – which I didn’t know existed so didn’t think to hint about – of hipster homes blog The Selby.
There are loads of things about the book that I love. One is how cluttered the interiors are, and how full of personality. So many of them remind me of the Cornish homes I hung about in as a teenager, where people understood that making a house your own started (and sometimes ended) with putting up a photo of Bob Dylan.
It’s also really interesting to see so many homes belonging to men, even if they are for the most part gnarly surf dudes. Their cool beach-side cabins decorated with album covers, speakers and old super-8 cameras are fun – Point Break Chic if you will. In the whole book though, this house appealed to me most. Can you guess whose it is?
I think it’s the zig-zaggy rugs that did it. But yes, it’s the house shared by Jonathan Adler and Simon Doonan. Nice. They even have a ping-pong table covered in what looks like Cole & Son’s Malabar.
