Inside writers’ homes
An email from my friend in Poland today alerted me to Beryl Bainbridge’s death, and told me to look at the pictures of her in the papers. I confess that I’ve never read her books, something I intend to remedy as of this week. But I had enjoyed pictures of her glamorous, ravaged face and curious cluttered house before.
Here a photo of her writing room, with, as is often noted, a toy gun and dog by the typewriter. Elsewhere there are bell jars, taxidermy, and so the Guardian obituary claims, a buffalo in the hall. I love pictures of where writer’s write, and if you do too I suggest you check out the Guardian’s ongoing series on it, here.
