How to keep an expensive redecorating habit in check
As I ponder yet another new colour combination obsession (more on that in a moment), I’ve been thinking about how to stop buying, redecorating and clothing myself and my house according to what I’m writing about at any given moment for our colour employer. BUT… I just saw an idea that could be a cheaper way to play out colour whims. At least on the home.
I’ve literally been stood in my kitchen staring up at the corner thinking “Pink? Orange? Green…????” I mean you could probably manage to do that triangle with a tester pot or two, which will cost, what, £6? It’s taken from the Instagram account of Apartamento mag founder Omar Sosa – the lady pictured doing the Walk Like an Egyptian is a trendy cook from New York. I like the way the green arrow points to all the frames on the wall.
What do you think? Trend? Travesty? I think it only really works on a white wall with a strong colour, but I might be wrong.
Oh yeh and my latest obsession, courtesy of a feature I’m writing about, is orange and aubergine. I’ll give you a heads up when the feature’s live and you can see the images that did it for me.
Hot damn, now all I can think about is painting coloured triangles on my ceilings. Love that idea. I have done the edges of my doors – one in bright pink, the rest in grey. You can do that with a tester pot and it just shows when the door is open which is like a little colour treat when you open it.
Nice idea Kate. How many other colour treats can be done with tester pots – inside shelves, er, er, one floorboard in every 20? I’m thinking…
Trend!…Kate, love the idea of bright pink on the edges of doors.
Naah, really annoying, aggressive shape, distracting, trying too hard, would get sick of it quickly and it brings the ceiling down, take it away and the ceiling floats again and you can look at the pictures properly without an eye worm. Woops that’s more than my two penny worth isn’t it! Plenty of better ways of placing colour.
Oh please, can someone paint over that triangle quick! It’s like a hovering corner of a snooker table, or one of those little special offer corners that they paste onto photos of multi buy items of online groceries. Annoying. And, while I’m here, can I add that I can’t see the point of white frames against more white…why not paste the posters to the wall? Good tester pot ideas. They’re good for random coloured window ledges too.
