Guilty pleasure
Now, I wouldn’t bring this up on a dinner date with Tom Dixon, but I currently have a secret liking for Designers Guild. What I used to think of as all a bit Chelsea-ghastly, the current range is full of greys, pinks and zingy yellows, in wildly outsize blooms and on-trend geometric wallpaper patterns. Then in Friday’s Evening Standard Tricia Guild let us into her own lovely sitting room.
I really like this – the dark rug making all the colours pop, the round mismatched cushions, and most pleasing to me, the idea of having a pair of curtains in two different clashing fabrics. What a great idea. The other bit of information that caught my eye is that she shares this upholstery-heavy space with two golden retrievers. One word. Febreze.
I’ve only just got my head around not being “matchy-matchy”…. but different curtains plus a cacophony of colour is definitely a hue too far. I could feel hungover on lemondade in that room!
Thanks Mrs Macnair – love your turn of phrase. I think ‘drunk on lemonade’ might be the look I’m going for!
