Guest post: vintage flair

Once again please welcome Ashlee, from Malmo, as she casts an ex-pat’s eye over London shopping:

“I get mighty miffed at style mavens who, when asked about the oh so cool design classics that grace their home, smugly quip “Oh, I picked them up at a flea market, they were really cheap,” particularly when the only bargains I ever seem to spot are mismatched glasses, the obligatory Toby jub or a lava lamp if I’m really lucky. That’s why I’m gearing myself up for Judy’s Affordable Vintage Fair. This leading vintage fair tours the UK, offering affordable vintage gems from the 1920s to 1980s.

The fair has just been at London’s Royal Festival Hall, as part of the Vintage At The Southbank festival, but I’m particularly looking forward to The Vintage Furniture Flea, a fair dedicated solely to midcentury homewares and furniture, which will take place in east London on Sunday 11th September. Although I guess I’ll be lucky to find an Eames rocker, I will be keeping my eye out for a nice Ercol classic, or perhaps a funky sixties sideboard.”
