Great White hope

Can you tell what it is yet?

Farrow & Ball Great White

Not art, but a form of self-expression I guess. It’s me trying out paint colours again. Yes I’m back on the colour charts. My bedroom, though it has a wallpapered wall done, has not been painted since I moved in. The putrid peach remains. The awful stuff is impossible to test colours against because it makes them look weird, so I’ve been painting white squares to then paint tester pots over the top.

I was pretty certain, having helped someone paint their kitchen with it recently, that I would go for Great White by Farrow & Ball. It’s one of their ‘whites’, which in bright light look white but in less strong light reveal themselves to have a great depth of colour. Great White is quite pink, which sadly in my bedroom looks a bit like a mauve.

What do you think? Check out my lame-o styling with my mustard-coloured Primark sneakers. Lewisham’s answer to Abigail Ahern. Ahem.

What does Myfriendscat think or does she not concer herself with matters of paint colour and style? How well the artfully styled sneakers reflect the colour of the period lampshade by the way.

What shade of white are you actually after? I painted my hallway (which is dingy as you know) in Little Green Shaded White recently and it looks very lovely.

Who knows! I wanted a warm white that wasn’t at all beige. Maybe with a very very subtle pink to it. The F&B ones are great but they are pretty strong and I don’t want it to look to girly. Or – perish the thought – like I think a purple bedroom is a good idea.

Have you considered Little Greene’s ‘Welcome’? I always think it looks lovely on the colour card and they do 3-4 strengths of it now.

For warm white you should consider Slaked Lime – pop round and have a look at my hall if you want (thought I think your bedroom would be quite a bit lighter).

And people say white is boring… So many shades, such tough decisions! But at least you got the shoes right!
