Goodwood & Cass
At the weekend, we went (last minute) to Goodwood Estate, West Sussex for a night, armed only with slightly bad moods from having been in London too long. I was vaguely aware of expecting a race course, a country house where the Hemmingways once hosted their Vintage festival, and enough trees and rolling hills to shift the city blues. The latter really worked, it’s a glorious area.
What I hadn’t realised pre-trip, is that the Cass Sculpture Foundation is based here too – as signalled by Billy Lee’s ‘Big Head’ outside our hotel. Cass has a 26 acre plot of land that it uses to showcase an 80-strong collection of large sculptures – some of which were commissioned by the foundation. Not that I had time to see any of them, such was the lack of planning. Let’s get a sense of what I missed…
By John Davies.
By Mark Frith.
By Antony Gormley – the same bollards he designed for Peckham’s regeneration project some years back.
By Tania Kovats.
By Jon Isherwood.
Pretty amazing eh? Nature and art all-in-one – highly recommended for the soul, and something I intend to experience in full before winter gets into full swing.
Aaah – looks beautiful! Know what you mean about needing to escape the Smoke once in a while.
Love seeing those Gormley bollards in a new context – I used to live in Bellenden, Peckham and the urban versions were just around the corner…
Hello everybody really love your blog, first thing in the morning having a look what-s new here, have a nice day everybody, hope you like my own blog as well.
Thanks very much! We will check yours out too.
Looks fabulous, I am jealous as I have been trying to encourage my family to visit Yorkshire Sculpture Park with me for the last 2 years…….. X
I didn’t actually make it around the park either! Will also be putting the hours in to encourage and now away to check out the Yorkshire Sculpture Park too. x
