Friday file: Ten Meter Tower
I know it’s not Friday, but that’s another way of saying… this is probably one for the freelancers. Mine and Jill’s esteemed colleague from a job a hundred years ago (when we still got sent paper press releases in the post – how quaint!) used to save up anything that looked vaguely ‘fun’ to read and stashed it in her Friday File. The come Friday afternoon, while the sales team were snoozing off their boozy lunch and everyone was winding down, she had something ‘good’ to read.
This film isn’t to do with interiors at all, but goodness it is hypnotising. The longer you watch this short of people deciding whether or not to jump from the high board the more involving it becomes. It sounds a simple premise but the range of reactions is fascinating, and so easy to relate to. It’s such a private moment, in fact – who has not at some point felt the immense loneliness of the moments before a jump. Something you can only do for yourself, and alone. I once spent a good half hour being jeered by Spanish teenagers as I tried to be brave enough to leap from a bridge into a river in a ravine. Didn’t do it. Had to do the walk of shame back down. As do many of the people in this doc…
Go on, start it going and I swear you’ll be hooked – that’s why it’s one for the freelancers. Come on – what else are you really doing?
oh my god – can’t believe i’ve just sat there for over 16 minutes and watched that. BRILLIANT !
So many highlights…… the little girl who literally just ran off no bother, the older lady who I was literally begging not to jump but did, the 2 dudes who egg each other on and then one goes and then comes back to bug the other, one lady who literally just steps off the plank, the long walk of shame for the last guy and then the women who goes off backwards, I mean what the ??!
how would I do it ? walk off, run off, be pushed off……….
none of the above – there’s no bloody way i’d do it !!!!!
oh and i forgot about the boy/man that just wobbles and nearly goes but doesn’t – heart was in my mouth !!!
love that you made it through the whole thing too – wasn’t it strangely addictive?
