Fairground furniture
The first thing I thought when I saw this Tatler shoot, was I need to make me a fruit turban.
The second thing I thought was I want that flamingo. It looks like it’s made out of cardboard, but it reminded me of one of my favourite of all time houses – photographer Tim Walker’s East London factory, from an old issue of World of Interiors (love his work too).
This spread and its description of stuff had me in an ebay frenzy for ‘Fairground furniture’ for weeks. It amounted to nothing and, years later, when I isolate those painted wood twirly things, do I really want them? Yes, yes I still do.
At the moment, Show Studio’s pricey shop of art and former shoot props is probably offering the closest thing I know of.
Including this $ light from an old Nick Knight shoot, which sold for £7,500.
A’m out.
Hi
Hope you are well. I love these type of shoots too, Castle and Gibson have loads of fairground props and I’d like them ALL.
I’m from Blackpool so the fairground/fun fair theme appeals to me. I once interviewed Antoni from Antoni & Alison in their lovely office in Borough which had old Blackpool Illuminations on the wall, I was most jealous!
And now I am too TNMA. Just picturing it. Debra, Castle Gibson you say? I bet they don’t do them for car boot sale prices sadly. Tim Walker got his at a boot sale of course.
I can’t believe flamingos are back in fashion – I just saw some glass ones in the window of Dwell. They are not my style… I had spotted some circus lights once (here: http://teaforjoy.blogspot.com/2009/04/letter-lights.html) but I double checked the link and they are all gone… x
Thanks Lynne, definitely worth knowing the link for future just in case. What do you mean you don’t like flamingos?! x
