“Don’t fuck about” – at home with Marianne Faithful
We’ve shared videos from this fab little series before. Short little guided tours around the apartments of, well, scene-sters, but with a leaning towards fascinating figures from the 60s and 70s. I’m sharing this short film of Marianne Faithful. Not because the interior is so amazing, but because I like her attitude to her home.
It’s revealingly uncluttered, not rammed full of a lifetime’s books and possessions. Instead it is an understated, temporary-seeming Parisian apartment that has the feel of a place occupied by a young girl. I smart one, mind. She pleases herself. A photo of herself and Jagger is in the bathroom. “Best place for him.”
Half her lovely bed is piled with books – to assert that she doesn’t want to share it. She has a wonderful balcony and a great, unpretentious desk. Tres effortless wise-with-age chic. Check out the video (and see who else is in the series) at Nowness.
“I love my stuff”, “I don’t have a nostalgic bone in my body” – golden words, I also her general appeal, so straighforward.
But is she buddhist? Since the whole attutide is a tiny bit buddhist, no bonding with things (at least not too much) and she finds decoration repugnant – is she a practicioner?
