Definition of a gift
LOOK what Ros just gave me as a belated birthday present.
You have to understand there is a history with us and swans. It started with a tense conversation in the car on the way to Ardingly a few years ago when we realised we were hunting for the same thing. Then Ros found one a few months ago, the start of her collection. Despite that, yesterday she gave me this without showing even a hint that she might have liked to keep it – what generosity of spirit! It’s my very first one.
Look how versatile she is (the swan I mean).
I might just move her around every day.
A question about that top image, should I be painting that fireplace Elephants Breath to match the wallpaper? Always thinking readers, always thinking.
Thass a very pretty swan. I used to collect owls meself. But, the fireplace – is it wood? Then yes – but make sure it’s matt paint. I painted a wooden one in gloss and it looked terrible. Can’t explain why just awful. Redid in matt. Delicious. Worrabout a shade darker than elephant’s breath? Always thinking too ….
Kate
yes I think darker too. Glad you mentioned the gloss debacle, I’ve been thinking of gloss a lot lately. Thanks Kate!
I wonder if Ros will do what someone I know does after she gave me a jug I think she’d have liked to keep…’It’s really lovely that jug isn’t it?’ every time she visits, and I mean EVERY time. The swan is fabulous, I love that’s it’s pink …just keep little girls away from it, it’s a very tempting item. x
HA i hadn’t realised I did that! Yes, already had to explain to G that it’s not hers. x
Oh it’s not you that does that!!! Might need to keep a beady eye on you in future though. x
Lovely shade of pink, never really wanted a swan, but I do now. Love the textures in the top picture. My gut instinct is leave the fireplace….is that boring? 🙂
No it’s not and probably realistically, exactly what’s going to happen!
Please DO NOT paint the fireplace darker, I love the contrasting crispness of the white against the paper..and the gorgeous swan! it’s all just perfect as it is..beware over-thinking!
Ah ok thanks for that. I like a definite answer and this suits my natural tendency to take no action.
