Clerkenwell Design Week
Yesterday I visited Clerkenwell Design Week for the first time. Shame on me – I must have been leaving Jill to do it all in previous years. Anyway, I loved it. It’s full of great design, of course, but small enough to be manageable, buzzy but not heaving.
The best bit though is the location. Clerkenwell is lovely anyway, but being a visitor to the festival allows you into spaces you (I) would never normally have visited. Above is the Order of St John’s Priory Church and memorial garden. And below is the Farmiloe Building, used as the main hub for exhibitors. This historic warehouse space is a joy inside, with Victorian panelling partitioning off small nooks and crannies, and this impressive view up from the internal courtyard.
Today and tomorrow are all that is left of the week, so whether you fancy seeing the cream of East London’s interior showrooms putting on their best face, want to catch up with some Milan highlights in the flesh, or just want a nose around hidden old London, get registered and get over there.
