Address book: Willow & Hall
Remember our discussion about finding a comfortable sofa? I still haven’t made the purchase, but I am pretty certain that when I do I’ll be buying online. Don’t know about you, but when I have seen a sofa or sofa bed on the high street that appeals, once I’ve come to terms with the price tag, I have to resist shouting ‘I have to wait how long?’ when I find out the lead times. You with me? So I was interested to hear about Willow & Hall, a relative newcomer to online sofa and sofa bed sales, but one claiming a sustainable, affordable ethos that appealed to me.
Speaking to founder Sarah Massouh, I was pleased to find out that her motivation for starting the business addressed some of my own sofa sticking points as a buyer. “I had a strong desire to provide customers with the ability to purchase great quality British furniture at more affordable prices,” Sarah told me. “It seemed customers were having to subsidise a company’s business costs, such as their shops and showrooms. I wanted to fix this for them.”
The offering at Willow & Hall is pleasingly boutique, with a small range of classic and contemporary shapes available in all configurations – sofas, sofa beds and armchairs – and with a really great selection of upholstery. What I would describe as ‘just the right amount of choice.’ What’s more Willow & Hall use family-run businesses at every point of the supply chain, from the Wiltshire-based manufacturer to the delivery team.
So, next topic for discussion – does a Rose linen sofa in a house with a black cat say ‘relaxed homeowner’ or ‘unrealistic Hoovering schedule’?
