Address book: Seeking summer bedlinen
It’s officially summer. How do I know? I’ve swapped the winter duvet for the summer one. Which brings a few problems. Although I only have a standard double bed, I bought a winter duvet in a king size. It means that in winter there is an huge amount of extra duvet to pull around you and snuggle into, keeping you super warm. But now it’s summer I find that my selection of all-white double duvet covers could do with a refresh.
Non-white bedlinen? I never thought I’d hear myself say it. Above is the bedroom in Margate, which since I’ve added the hospital-style black bed-frame is officially the nicest bedroom in Thanet, possibly in the whole of Kent. But it’s north-facing and the white walls teamed with white linen now feel a little sterile.
I’ve got all sorts of strange rules about bedlinen (remember my one-woman campaign against fitted sheets?), but at the very very least it all has to be 100% cotton. I’ve also until recently been totally averse to colour, but the trend for stoney grey and pink linen (as seen at Toast, above) has caught my imagination.
Although I like the room being white, I am thinking that a warm grey might soften the feel considerably. The above image from Cox & Cox is very inspiring, as the wood panel behind the bed adds further softness – something this north-facing room would benefit from.
So that said, the pink and grey linen trend would fit in perfectly. The set above looks so inviting and is an affordable – but all cotton – take on the look. It’s available at Argos but is a Habitat set. I’ve even seen a vintage eiderdown in a retro shop that I’m coveting, which would add an extra layer of interest. The very thought of it is making me feel deliciously sleepy…

maybe it’s just me but when I find a ‘cool’ purchase in Argos (especially now Habitat is in collaboration) it never fails to surprise me and I am always a little smug.com !
But have you seen the new H&M home 100% linen (even better than cotton, in my opinion) duvet covers? In soft grey and pale pink.
Thanks Michelle – yes. I should have included them. I love H&M home – a 100% linen table cloth in choice of 3 neutral colours for £30? Amazing value and core product range x
