Address book: Bathroom accessories
I’ve ordered new taps for the bathroom, otherwise that project is at a complete standstill thanks to indecision about big factors. You’d think I wasn’t at the point of looking at accessories for the room yet since there’s not even a paint swatch up or a shower tile picked. You’d think, but you’d be wrong. Bathroom accessories – and I’d include small storage ideas, lighting and mirrors in that – are the bits that give the room a personality and thus the bits I find easier to focus on while the whole tile debate continues. They can stop a bathroom from feeling too functional or chilly and make it feel more designed and complete. Here are the things I’ve been looking at, starting with mirrors…
Circular mirrors are cute and you know what, they do actually work in pairs or threesomes – on a decorative level more than functional. This is a very cool black bathroom too, don’t you think?
This mirror from Pebble Grey is cleverly illuminated with LED lights that look like miniature Hollywood lights – and integrated lighting does make for an easier ride when it comes to putting on your makeup in the morning. I also like the versions of this mirror with bigger bulbs, which have names such as Monroe and Hepworth. Glamorama.
Storage next…
Graham and Green’s storage cabinet is well cute and perfect for adding a bit of low-key vintage style to bathrooms when they’re looking a bit overly slick – that’s pretty much the way I approach every room. The glass front does mean being more considered about how you arrange the inside of your cabinet, which is good or bad depending on how much you enjoy faffing around with your house.
At the other end of the spectrum is this nice, much more streamlined cabinet from Ikea.
I like the curved edges, the little handle and the fact that it’s small enough for any size of bathroom. I wish it came in black, but I always say that.
I’m also a big fan of adding small storage ideas that aren’t necessarily very bathroom…
The Muuto hooks above are great because they look good with nothing on them, but are at the end of the day quite handy. Not sure about the positioning of them above the bath here – what might you want to hang there? – but on another more accessible wall for towels, dressing gowns, a bag full of kids toys maybe, they make sense to me.
One more bathroom detail that I think makes the room nicer, something I tend to notice elsewhere is soap dispensers…
Aesop sells all its products in the most lovely packaging and to be honest you could easily refill their bottles with something more bog standard (translation: cheap) thereafter – lavender soap from Ecover for instance. Either that, or get yourself something nice and unbranded like this black one.
Muji’s always good for simple plastic dispensers.

Am doing my bathroom too and just bought the mirror after weeks of indecision. After nearly spending silly money ordering a vintage recessed cabinet from the US, I reined myself in and went for one from Decorum
I really hate the gloom of the black hole of Calcutta! Sorry. It would definitely start me out on a bleak note of a morning. The white bathroom with the lovely white wood door and the jazzy floor is lovely. The Ikea storage cupboard looks good and is really practical storage.
